How to think (with) bodies? How to grasp the embodied knowledge that informs and at the same time undermines our theorising? In encounters between transdisciplinary thinkers and artists, the international lecture series Body Concepts asks which bodies - and which realities of life - we pay attention to in our thinking, and which are confronted with systemic exclusions or framings. It addresses the need to navigate the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of contemporary dance making and dance thinking, and the prominent status that philosophical enquiry takes in the field of dance-related aesthetic practices in the widest sense. Body concepts play a crucial role here. They enable urgent discourse and dialogue between thinkers and artists and help us to name and shape the agency of bodies in the politico-ethical field of both communal and individual life. We consider this exchange of utmost importance for formulating meaningful interventions through, with, and about bodies. Each lecture is conceived around an encounter between an international thinker and a Berlin-based choreographer, to ensure that the proposed concepts help us to understand the body better not only in theory, but also on its own terms. Topics will include environmental bodies, transformational and queer bodies, migratory bodies, Black bodies, future bodies, psychoanalytic bodies, dis/abled bodies, and bodies in relation to violence. With Anna Arabindan-Kesson, Pia Brezavšcek, Adriana Cavarero, Nadia Christidi, Neve Gordon, Jack Halberstam, Jason de Léon, Sophie Mendelsohn, and Berlin-based artists and choreographers. Schließen
