Objectives:
Students acquire broad knowledge of cell biological and biochemical concepts and methods in membrane dynamics, including membrane architecture, mechanisms of intracellular membrane transport and neuronal signaling. They will be able to identify, phrase and discuss subject-specific questions, and to design experimental strategies for solving them.
Topics:
Organelle biogenesis and identity; phosphoinositide conversion; endosomal membrane traffic; nutrient signaling; mechanisms of membrane contact site assembly; signaling at neuronal synapses.
Methods:
Super resolution STED microscopy; live and fixed cell spinning disk confocal microscopy; total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy; (immuno-)isolation of organelles; proximity labeling using APEX2 / TurboID.
