SoSe 24: Ethic Principles in Social Sciences

The course is devoted to providing a review of current research ethics in social sciences. In the course, we will examine the concepts of academic and research integrity, as well as the evolution of research ethics. Additionally, the course will discuss different aspects of ethics, including authorship principles, citations, data protection and storage, ethical approval, privacy, and research involving humans and vulnerable groups. We will explore the regulation of ethical principles in research. Another topic of the course will focus on recent cases of academic dishonesty in Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, and worldwide, including post-publication investigations and their consequences. We will also discuss the ethical considerations of research on Ukraine and Russia during the current war. Special attention will be given to the analysis of the differences between quality and problematic journals (predatory and hijacked).
