Public Events

In addition to its regular courses, Freie Universität Berlin holds hundreds of lectures, events, and conferences for researchers and the interested public every year. For current events please visit our calendar of events.

Einstein Lectures Dahlem

The Einstein Lectures Dahlem lecture series, hosted by Freie Universität Berlin and several external institutions, is dedicated to the epochal work of Albert Einstein. Einstein was director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Physics for almost two decades. The lectures address a broad academic public and cover various scientific disciplines influenced by Einstein’s thinking.

Freedom Award of Freie Universität Berlin

The international Freedom Award is presented to persons who served freedom in a political, social, or academic context. The Freedom Award is an international award honoring advocates of one of the most important values worldwide and thus complements a canon of prestigious awards.

Long Night of the Sciences

Since 2001, Freie Universität has been participating annually in the "Long Night of the Sciences" with an extensive program of events hosted by the university's departments, institutes, research groups, and other institutions. Through vivid lectures, guided tours, interactive experiments, readings, panel discussions, workshops, and much more, visitors will be able to gain impressions of new research results from basic and applied research.

Margherita von Brentano Award of Freie Universität Berlin

With the Margherita von Brentano Award Freie Universität Berlin pays recognition to the importance of women’s and gender studies and supports further research in the field. The award is presented to outstanding projects innovative in the promotion of women and gender equality. It is an expression of the university’s basic principles as well as its efforts to actively promote equality.

Open Lecture Halls

For more than twenty years Freie Universität has been holding lectures open to the general public over a broad spectrum of topics. With this series Freie Universität Berlin presents itself as a university that is open to anyone interested in science and scholarship.
