Professional teaching means more than just knowledge and skills in a particular field. Increasingly stringent requirements that apply to teaching, along with new concepts in the acquisition and communication of knowledge, make solid skills in teaching at the university level and improved networking with colleagues on teaching-related subjects a necessity.
As part of the Quality Pact for Teaching, Freie Universität Berlin offers all scholars and scientists who have teaching duties a continuing education program geared toward teaching skills at the university level. Our offerings are based on recent findings from research on teaching and learning and university research (the teaching competency model) and are geared toward the guidelines published by the German Association for Educational and Academic Staff Development in Higher Education (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hochschuldidaktik). With numerous workshops, advising, coaching, support options, presentations and talks, and online offerings, we support you in your varied tasks and promote a thriving culture of teaching and learning at our university[PL1] .
You are free to complete the full certificate program or attend individual courses and events that interest you. These qualification activities are geared toward the needs and resources of instructors. They offer a broad spectrum for various target groups, from general topics in teaching at the university level to topics aimed at specific subjects and disciplines.
Perhaps you plan to use collaborative tools like wikis or blogs in your courses, or to hold electronic exams? Do you want to record your lectures and post them online or publish scholarly or scientific publications through open access? Or are you looking for a way to create multimedia repositories or implement digital research environments? If so, the continuing education team at the Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS) helps scholars, scientists, and researchers in the process of developing and implementing their ideas for the use of digital media in teaching and research.
The CeDiS offerings include not only traditional theme-specific workshops and overarching programs, but also webinars with online support and self-learning modules for selected e-learning applications.
