Refubium, Freie Universität Berlin’s institutional repository, is a service of the University Library and enables university members to publish academic papers and research data electronically. We provide doctoral candidates with comprehensive advice on publishing via Refubium in close cooperation with the doctoral offices of the individual departments.

Our services include:

  • Advice on the dissertation submission process
  • Rights clearance for cumulative dissertations
  • Arranging publishing contracts for the first publication of the dissertation via Refubium
  • Examining your publications in anticipation of secondary publication
  • Reviewing publishing contracts and image rights
  • Financing Open Access publications via the publication fund and institutional memberships
  • Publishing research data

Doctoral candidates are obliged to make their dissertations available to the wider academic community by providing copies for circulation.

The Dissertations Department at the University Library collects all copies of dissertations written at Freie Universität Berlin that candidates are required to submit in accordance with the doctoral regulations of their program. Depending on the standards set out in the relevant doctoral regulations, the dissertation can be submitted in print form (e.g., photo print, review copy) and/or on microfiche.

The university bibliography lists publications by members of Freie Universität Berlin and is available as a cumulative online bibliography via the library portal Primo.

You can document your publications for the Freie Universität Berlin University Bibliography using the “System zur Erfassung der Publikationen” (SEP).
