Using the library
Here is a short guide to using the Central Library and departmental libraries.
How to sign up for a library card
Your campuscard also serves as your library card and can be used in every university library.
If you are employed by Freie Universität Berlin you can generate your own library card for employees via the my.FU Portal. Log in to the portal and simply click Bibliotheksausweis to download your library card.
Borrowing and ordering media
The circulation desks are responsible for all services related to borrowing media, such as lending and returning library items, extending loan periods, and resolving any individual issues you may have regarding library matters.
Orders can be placed via the library portal Primo. Any media from the university libraries that you have borrowed, ordered, or reserved is displayed under the menu item “My Account” alongside interlibrary loans, fees, and personal data.
Library tours are a great way of getting to know the university libraries. Guided tours of the university libraries are regularly held at the Central Library and the departmental libraries. You can find further information about upcoming tours on the websites of the individual libraries.
Workspaces for individual and group study are available at every University Library location. Some of the individual workspaces are equipped with computers that have internet access.
