Theocharis Grigoriadis, associate professor for economy at the Institute for East European Studies at Freie Univerität Berlin, visited the State University of St. Petersburg for a Senior Research Stay in the framework of the University Alliance for Sustainability.
During his research stay Prof. Grigoriadis delivered a block course in Energy Economics & Policy with reference to Eastern Europe, which is based on the course that he already offered at FU Berlin. Students learned about the economics of energy markets with reference to the regulation of natural monopolies, extraction of nonrenewable resources, and regulation of oil, gas and electricity markets.
Furthermore, basic analytical tools for understanding the environmental aspects of energy and more specifically pollution control, fuel externalities, land allocation and forestry, fisheries and climate negotiations were taught.
Furthermore, Prof. Grigoriadis pursued a research project on green finance with the title, Urban Growth & Public Goods in the Russian Federation. Here he explores the effects of green finance on housing prices, homeownership and the quality of public goods at central, regional and local levels. Cases are drawn from climate- and geography-diverse regions of Russia such as Siberia and the Russian Far East, the Caucasus and the Russian North.
