On 17 October 2025, Freie Universität Berlin hosted the inaugural event of its Open Science Working Group (OSWG) under the title ‘Open Science in Action’. In addition to the Open Science and Open Access Officers Prof. Dr. Frank Fischer and Dr. Dennis Mischke, representatives from all 15 departments of the university participated in the event.

The programme presented a wide variety of examples of open research practices, from citizen science in Berlin's allotments to the problems and opportunities of the open science concept in the humanities. Methods, tools, and perspectives on open science were presented and discussed in four sessions and a poster exhibition.

The event provided ample opportunity for exchange and marked the launch of the revitalised Open Science Working Group. Members of Freie Universität Berlin who would like to stay up to date are welcome to subscribe to our mailing list.
