With around 368 demonstrations in Germany alone, the Global Climate Strike will be conducted for the sixth time on September 25. The call for protest is again coming from the climate movement Fridays for Future. They are supported by a broad alliance of civil society, including the association Scientists 4 Future: "It is important because, in parallel to COVID-19, we must tackle the much greater challenges of the climate, biodiversity and sustainability crisis. And because important political decisions are about to be made - at the moment especially in the context of the German EU presidency," says Gregor Hagedorn, member of the S4F coordination team for Germany. On Friday, climate activists, environmental groups and NGOs will all together call for stronger EU climate targets, a coal phase-out by 2030 and a socio-ecological transformation.
In Berlin the strike starts on Friday at 11 am. In order to ensure sufficient safety and distance under the corona circumstances, the demonstration has been decentralized this time. However, the center of attention remains the Brandenburg Gate, where a sit-in will take place from 11 am, accompanied by rallies and a stage program. Various feeder roads will help to smooth the arrival of the demonstrators, for example, a bicycle demonstration will start at 11 a.m. from Potsdamer Platz and cycle towards the Brandenburg Gate.
The organizing team also calls on all participants to adhere to the proven corona protection measures: distance, hygiene rules and wearing an everyday mask!
