FAQ on Mowing Practices on Campus

  • Why was the flowering meadow mowed?

Completely avoiding mowing is not possible. To maintain meadows and prevent overgrowth, our areas are mowed 1-2 times a year or tended by hand with a sickle. Mowing typically occurs in summer and autumn. Plants that bloom in summer often produce a second bloom after mowing, so you can look forward to a colorful meadow again soon! To protect insects, mowing is staggered over time.

  • Who decides when and where mowing takes place?

For the areas of the Blooming Campus, we create mowing plans to ensure reduced and staggered mowing. Other campus areas are coordinated by the Building and Property Management (GGM). Execution is carried out by external service providers.

  • Our self-made garden was mowed. What can I do?

Please submit a plan showing the garden’s location and include a photo so we can assist you. Email: bluehender-campus@fu-berlin.de.

  • Leaf blowers are being used again in front of our building. What can I do about it?

For questions or concerns, you can contact dienstleistung@ggm.fu-berlin.de directly.

  • How can I participate in the Blooming Campus and the Blätterlaube?

We currently meet on Sundays from 2–4 PM at the Blätterlaube. For more information, join the mailing list (blaetterlaube@lists.fu-berlin.de).
