Governance
Sustainability at Freie Universität Berlin is characterized by a variety of opportunities for participation, systematic management, and continuous networking.
The Unit for Sustainability and Energy Management is assigned to the Provost for Administration and Finance and, therefore, the Executive Board. The Vice President of Research is responsible for sustainability-related topics in research and teaching. The central advisory board sets the focus of sustainability initiatives at the university and is supported by four working groups organized around the topics of research, teaching, campus management, and participation. Decentralized sustainability and audit teams attend to concrete projects and measures. All teams are interdisciplinary and cross-departmental. We operate our goals and activities based on an integrated management system. The SUSTAIN IT! Initiative, founded by students and university employees in 2010, serves an important function as initiator and networker.
