Christina Schaefer is Professor of Romance Philology at Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel. Her research spans contemporary and early modern literature in French and Italian, with special interest in literature and oikonomia, the history of knowledge, autofiction, and the „Querelle des femmes“. She has written books on the French Nouveau Roman, as well as on Italian Renaissance dialogues on household management. She is editor or co-editor of volumes such as Facetten der experientia. Zum Rekurs auf Erfahrung und Erfahrungswissen in der frühneuzeitlichen Romania (2022), Macht der Gewohnheit, Macht des Schreibens. Erfahrung und Gewohnheit bei Schriftstellerinnen der Frühen Neuzeit (1500-1800) (2024), and Shaping the Future: Literary Imagination in the Anthropocene (2025). Christina Schaefer recently held research fellowships at the German Study Centre in Venice and at Villa I Tatti – The Harvard University Centre for Italian Renaissance Studies, Florence, with a project on early modern women writers. While in Berlin, she will examine „The Rhetorics of Deficient Bodies in Margherita Costa’s Baroque Poetry“.
