“Ten lead containers from Thonis-Heracleion: tackling the problem of dating”, published in the British Museum Studies in Ancient Egypt and Sudan, no. 24 by DRS POINT Alumna Elsbeth van der Wilt, explores the function of some of the over 1,200 lead objects that were discovered during excavations of the Institut Européen d’Archéologie Sous-Marine (IEASM) in Abukir Bay up to 2011. The assemblage from Thonis-Heracleion is exceptional in size and diversity considering that lead objects are very rare in the Egyptian archaeological record.
