What criteria are used in order to determine who receives a Deutschlandstipendium at Freie Universität?

1. Academic performance (secondary school and university level)

The main factor is an excellent academic record. The following criteria apply:

Students currently enrolled in their first degree program (bachelor’s or state exams):

  • Students enrolled in their first or second semester at the time they submit the application for a Deutschlandstipendium: Your grade point average on your university entrance qualification (e.g on your high school diploma) or of a previous academic degree
  • if applicable: The grade point average in your current studies
  • if applicable: The total number of university credits (ECTS) in your current studies earned so far

Master's students:

  • Your grade of your previous academic degree (e.g. bachelor’s degree)
  • if applicable: The grade point average in your current studies
  • if applicable: The total number of university credits (ECTS) in your current studies earned so far

2. Work-related activities, volunteer work, and recognitions

  • Special recognitions, awards, and prizes
  • professional experiences and internships
  • Extracurricular activities such as volunteer work for social or community organizations, student government, civic or political groups, or work with clubs, associations, or religious organizations

3. Personal or familial circumstances

  • chronic illness or disabilities
  • caring for children (especially single parents) or other family members in need of care
  • personal or family history of immigration (especially refugee status)
  • non-academic family background
  • completed vocational training
  • university entrance qualification received in a non-traditional way ("zweiter Bildungsweg")
