About 300 people from the business sector, academia and research, and public policy who are involved with the Deutschlandstipendium met in Berlin on May 29, 2013, to discuss options for designing the scholarship.

One of the participants in the podium discussion was María José Muñoz, a recipient of the Deutschlandstipendium at Freie Universität Berlin. Muñoz (24) is a student of Latin American Studies. She commented on the scholarship program:

“To me, social involvement and commitment to Latin America and studying go hand in hand. I think it is very exciting that the support I am receiving in this comes from an Asian company, because this reflects the current shift taking place in global dynamics while also opening up opportunities for much-needed new dialogue. The insight into real-world practice that I gleaned from this global company and the support provided by my mentor are very helpful, including with an eye to my start in the working world. To me, the Deutschlandstipendium is synonymous with international networking.”

Financial support is increasingly accompanied by seminars, workshops, mentoring programs, or networking events. Many students, supporters, and higher education institutions view these kinds of options as being integral to the special quality of the Deutschlandstipendium.
