University president Professor Dr. Günter M. Ziegler on the Deutschlandstipendium at Freie Universität Berlin

Dear alumni, friends and supporters of Freie Universität,

The Deutschlandstipendium acknowledges the diverse and personal commitment of students and does more than provide financial support: The scholarship gives our students room to breathe which they use for volunteer work, be it by supporting refugees, by participating in charitable organizations or by setting up their own social initiatives.

Freie Universität Berlin is a reflection of the people who learn, teach, research, and work with us – a reflection of their outstanding scientific work, their social commitment, and their diverse backgrounds. In the case of the Deutschlandstipendium, diversity is evident through the internationality of many scholarship holders and the breadth of their chosen fields of study. Freie Universität Berlin also has its own university-specific focus when awarding scholarships. These include, for example, a proven commitment to the topics of migration, integration, international understanding and intercultural communication, a focus in the area of gerontology and support of the elderly, or successful participation in start-up competitions and founders programs.
