Stockholm+50: Five Decades of Global Environmental Policy

Public Lectures Series at Freie Universität Berlin from April 25 to July 18, 2022

A public lecture series beginning on April 25 at Freie Universität Berlin will focus on developments and contemporary aspects of global environmental policy. The speakers will address issues related to how ideas about sustainable development in politics and research have changed over the past 50 years. In June 1972 the first United Nations Conference on the Human Environment was held in Stockholm. The series will begin with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Miranda Schreurs from the Department of Governance at the Technical University of Munich entitled “International climate change politics: From Rio de Janeiro to Glasgow.” Attendance is possible in person and via livestream. There is no charge.

Program

Other topics in the Open Lecture Hall series during the summer semester are “Eugenics – Dehumanization – Remembrance,” in which the speaker on April 25 will address the memory, history, and aftermath of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Anthropology, Human Genetics and Eugenics. Beginning on April 27, the series “Networking and Dissipating?” will address the future of academic teaching. In addition, a series of events organized by the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg and being held at Freie Universität will deal with Jewish literature in the language cultures of the world.
