Three Public Lecture Series during the 2020 Spring/Summer Semester at Freie Universität Berlin

№ 045/2020 from Mar 03, 2020

Freie Universität Berlin cordially invites you to three free public lectures as part of the Open Lecture Hall program during the 2020 spring/summer semester. One series is devoted to various professional perspectives on democracy as a form of rule, society, and life. The other series look into world literary considerations on the work of the writer Paul Celan and into body designs and pictures in comics.

A series of lectures entitled “Comics – Art – Body. Construction and subversion of body images in comics” will begin on Thursday, April 16. Another lecture series on the topic of ¡Democracy! – history, present, future” will also be held Thursdays. On Tuesdays, beginning April 21, scholars and a writer will examine the work of Paul Celan (1920-1970) in a lecture series entitled “Paul Celan in a Global Literary Context,” and in particular, referring to the current relevance of his works in the global literary context. April 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of his death; in November this year he would have been 100 years old.
