Caterina Granz wins 1500-meter race at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples

Caterina Granz, a student at Freie Universität, won a gold medal in the 1500-meter race at the 30th Summer Universiade 2019 in Naples. The twenty-five-year-old psychology student beat her competition in the finals with a time of 4:09:14, leading from start to finish ahead of the Australian Georgia Griffith and the Canadian Courtney Hufsmith. It was the only gold medal won by the German team of students at the international games, which ended on Sunday, July 14, after almost two weeks of events.

The Summer Universiade is the largest multi-sport event in the world after the Olympics. Around 8,000 athletes from over 150 countries participated. In addition to Caterina Granz’s gold medal, the 124 athletes from Germany took home nine silver and eight bronze medals.
