“On the Empirical (Ir)Relevance of the Zero Bound Constraint”

Professor of economics Jordi Galí from Pompeu Fabra University in Spain is the Bundesbank Guest Professor at Freie Universität Berlin for the 2019 summer semester. During his stay, he will pursue his research on monetary theory and policy. He will also teach a class on monetary and fiscal policy. At his inaugural lecture on April 17, Jordi Galí will speak on the empirical significance of the zero lower bound for macroeconomics. His talk examines if and how actions guided by conventional monetary policies, such as interest rate management, and unconventional monetary policies, such as quantitative easing and forward guidance, affect the macroeconomy. The lecture will be in English without translation; it is public, and admission is free.

Jordi Galí is a professor of economics at Pompeu Fabra University and a senior researcher at the Center for Research in International Economics in Spain.

The Deutsche Bundesbank Guest Professorship was established in 1987 at Freie Universität Berlin by a Deutsche Bundesbank foundation. Recipients of the Bundesbank professorship include internationally renowned university professors from the fields of monetary theory and policy as well as international finance. The guest professorship lasts one semester or more.
