Freie Universität Berlin is part of BeCOIL – the joint network of 9 Berlin higher education institutions on COIL. It aims to increase the range and quality of digital international teaching and learning opportunities by developing common standards and exploiting synergy effects. The aim is to strengthen the cooperation of all Berlin universities with their international partners and with each other, to offer international learning opportunites to non-mobile students, to take account of the digital transformation of the international mobility landscape, and to further develop the corresponding competences of teachers and students and consolidate them in the universities.

The BeCOIL network at Berlin institutions is funded by the state of Berlin as part of their focus on "Digitalization and Innovation" of the Quality and Innovation Offensive (2nd funding phase).
