On November 1st 2024, the Una Europa Lecture on ‘Wildlife in the Big City - How can nature conservation succeed in urban areas?’ took place as part of Berlin Science Week. The panel discussion was moderated by Sophie Lokatis from the German Wildlife Foundation. Her guests were Dr Tanja Straka, head of the Urban Ecology research group at Freie Universität Berlin, urban ecologist Dr Leon Barthel and urban wildlife PhD student Simon Mösch. Wild animals such as hedgehogs often face major challenges and dangers in urban areas. The panel discussed current research on the coexistence of humans and wild animals in urban areas and how we can specifically help the animal of the year, the hedgehog, to survive.
