Open Science in Libraries: Enabling Access, Empowering Knowledge
Libraries have long stood for access to information and the exchange and production of knowledge. In a time when openness has become a guiding principle in the scientific world, libraries play a key role in making knowledge more transparent, accessible, and inclusive.
The Library track of Freie Universität’s International Staff Training Week 2026 will explore how libraries can foster openness – from open access publishing and open data to open science support and community engagement. Together, we will discuss how (academic) libraries can play a key role in connecting researchers in different fields of study as well as learners and the public.
The program will include a mix of contributions from FUB Library staff and external speakers, complemented by workshops and networking sessions. Participants will also have the opportunity to share good practices and present and discuss projects on openness run by their home institutions.
Please review our draft agenda.
Participation in this program is limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
The application period will end on 26 January 2026. As we usually receive more applications than available places, the motivation questions in the application form are an important part of the selection process – we therefore kindly ask you to complete them carefully. The program is designed for active participation, and contributions from participants are warmly welcomed.
