Global Liaison Officers Connect: Overcome Challenges, Exchange Ideas, and Discuss Regional Realities

In today’s globalized higher education landscape, many universities like Freie Universität Berlin appoint liaison officers to represent their institutions abroad. These professionals often work in challenging and dynamic environments, far from their home campuses, and take on a variety of roles depending on the institution’s mission and strategy. Their profiles are as diverse as their tasks—ranging from promoting student mobility and managing international partnerships, to supporting research collaborations, alumni relations, or market development.

This program is designed to bring together liaison officers from institutions around the world, creating a platform for professional exchange and learning from each other, and reflecting insights from scientific research and organizational experiences managing liaison office networks. Participants will gain insights into how peers operate under different institutional models—whether they represent entire universities, regional networks, or specific programs. The focus will be on participants exchanging their experiences in different interactive formats, and will include both a scientific perspective on the work and the viewpoint of their home institutions.

Please review our draft agenda. As this is a preliminary version, the program remains subject to change and will be further developed in the coming months, also taking into account participants’ input.

Participation in this program is limited to a maximum of 35 participants.

The application period will end on 26 January 2026. As we usually receive more applications than available places, the motivation questions in the application form are an important part of the selection process – we therefore kindly ask you to complete them carefully. The program is designed for active participation, and contributions from participants are warmly welcomed.
