Job Shadowing in Translation and Editing Services – Professional Standards and Practices

Working in an international and multilingual setting requires a specific set of tools and resources. Language services, such as translation offices, help university members reach a wider audience and better facilitate daily operations. From science communication to administrative procedures, the Central Translation Office at Freie Universität provides translation and editing support for a wide array of genres, audiences, and university offices.

We look forward to welcoming other translators or language experts to our three-day job shadowing program as part of the 2024 International Staff Week at Freie Universität Berlin and sharing insights with you from our experiences in this quickly changing profession.

How can we ensure professionalism across different languages of communication? What standards should university communication be held to? How do we identify and cultivate high-quality, professional writing in a university context?

If you are a translator, language specialist, or otherwise involved in multilingual communication at an institute of higher education, we invite you to apply to our International Staff Week job shadowing program.

This program offers a unique opportunity to:

• Examine strategies for enhancing professionalism in multilingual communication

• Collaborate with peers from universities worldwide

• Gain insights into our communication practices and workflows

• Share experiences and discuss best practices for translation and editorial management in a university context

Please review our draft agenda.

Please note that participation in this program is limited to a maximum of 2 participants.
