Nino Vallen Won Career Development Award of the Berlin University Alliance
The Latin American scholar at Freie Universität Berlin is one of eleven outstanding postdoctoral researchers at the Berlin University Alliance to be awarded paid academic leave during the 2021/22 winter semester.

The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) conferred its Career Development Awards for the first time this year. Eleven junior researchers from the humanities and social sciences, life sciences and engineering from the BUA universities have been granted the award for the 2021/22 winter semester.
The award winners, including Dr. Nino Vallen from the Institute for Latin American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin (LAI), are on leave and released from all official activities in order to focus on their own research project. Historian Vallen deals with the struggle over natural resources in Latin America in the 19th century. His project is entitled “Living Well: World-Making and the Struggle over Natural Resources in Latin America (1830–1910).” The funding is intended to promote the personal profile and career development of outstanding postdoctoral researchers.
