Employee Representatives

Employee representatives are individuals who are elected to advocate for the interests of members of staff at Freie Universität Berlin. They are appointed to act on behalf of employees in negotiations with their employer, the university.

This role is performed by four different staff councils at Freie Universität Berlin. The local staff councils attend to matters concerning individual employees, such as job advertisements, hiring procedures, pay scale grouping and salary reviews, changes to working hours, occupational health and safety, disciplinary procedures, and termination of employment. They are listed as follows:

  • The Staff Council: Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin is responsible for staff members of the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum.
  • The Staff Council of Student Employees represents members of staff whose employment is governed by the Collective Agreement for Student Employees III (“TV Stud III”).
  • The Youth and Apprentices Representatives is responsible for all apprentices, regardless of where they have been assigned, and forms part of the Staff Council: Dahlem.
  • The Staff Council: Dahlem is the point of contact for all other employees.

The Staff Council: Entire Freie Universität handles overarching matters of concern, such as employment agreements pertaining to all employees at Freie Universität Berlin.
