The Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies (BTS) is a joint endeavour of the Freie Universität Berlin, the Hertie School of Governance, and the Social Science Research Center Berlin. It offers a rigorous and dynamic English-language PhD programme for exceptionally-talented graduate students in the field of transnational and international relations, defined as an interdisciplinary field of research encompassing political science, history, economics, law and related disciplines.

The PhD programme at BTS combines three years of structured training and coursework with the primary task of conducting independent research for the PhD thesis. While working toward completing your thesis as a BTS student, you will participate in thematic survey courses, colloquia on research methods, and multidisciplinary skills workshops. 

 As in the previous years, BTS is eager to receive the applications of exceptionally talented students for its new cohort. We encourage all interested persons to begin preparing their applications now. The final deadline for complete applications is January 31, 2016.

All applicants for the PhD programme are automatically considered for the BTS scholarship during the review process.
