The course aims to introduce students to methodological and theoretical issues in cultural studies using the topic of religion(s) in China. This topic lends itself well to learning about and testing a wide variety of cultural studies approaches to identity, conceptual history, gender, secularization, globalization, religious market theory, and more. Important methodological research questions and findings will be examined and discussed on the basis of recent articles on various topics. close
