Course Overview: Methods of Experimental Scientific Work
The course provides an overview of methods of experimental scientific work. It is intended to provide a basis for the preparation of ethological, experimental dissertations in veterinary medicine.
Using experimental video data from laboratory mice, a behavioral observation should be planned, performed, and analyzed from the scientific question to the presentation of the results in a practical group exercise spanning several course days.
Course Content:
- Overview of the principles of scientific work and good scientific practice
- Formulating a hypothesis, formulating a scientific question
- Creating an ethogram
- Project management
- Introduction to R (installation [bring your laptop!], basics)
- Common statistical methods
- Literature research/literature management
- Reading, understanding and summarizing scientific literature
- Scientific writing
- Presentation of results
