Kunst und Künstlertum in der deutschen Literatur von Goethe bis Thomas Mann

Wenn Literatur und Kunst sich thematisch und poetologisch immer auch mit sich selbst beschäftigt haben, dann nicht, um eine selbstbezogene Nabelschau zu betreiben, sondern um die Stellung der Künstlerinnen und Künstler in der Gesellschaft und die Bedeutung der Kunst für die Gesellschaft kritisch zu reflektieren. Die Vorlesung gibt einen Überblick über diese Selbst-Thematisierung in der deutschsprachigen Literatur von Goethe bis zum Frühwerk Thomas Manns. Der historische Bogen reicht dabei von der Herausbildung moderner Künstlerexistenzen am Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts über diverse Politisierungs- und Ästhetisierungsprozesse im "langen" 19. Jahrhundert bis hin zur medialen Inszenierung künstlerischer Autorschaft am Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts. Im Mittelpunkt der Vorlesung steht eine Reihe von Werkanalysen, die in den Kontext der literatur- und kulturgeschichtlichen Entwicklung zwischen 1780 und 1920 gestellt werden.
