(Seminar) Feminist movements as organised educational practice: spaces, practices and perspectives of critical education

As Donna Haraway (1988) emphasises, knowledge is never absolute, but always situated – bound to perspectives, experiences and contexts. Feminist movements have not only developed this idea theoretically, but also translated it into practical forms of knowledge. They have always functioned as places of alternative knowledge production and educational practice: they document experiences, create their own archives, develop collective learning processes and thus break through established knowledge regimes. In this seminar, we focus on feminist movements as spaces of critical and emancipatory knowledge organisation. We ask: How is the organisation of feminist movements interwoven with alternative educational practices? What role do collective learning processes and knowledge acquisition play in the goals of feminist movements? And how does their knowledge production interact with that of the academic canon? The seminar moves at the interface between theoretical discourse and practical-creative topic development. In addition to examining academic texts, we also work in a practical and creative manner: through interview and archive projects as well as through the joint design of an academic ZINE (cf. Bagelman & Bagelman, 2016). The aim is not only to develop feminist perspectives on knowledge production theoretically, but also to try out new forms of learning and teaching ourselves. close
