This course examines the emergence and development of European offshore financial centers from the 19th to the 20th century and analyzes their role in the context of globalization, development, inequality, and financial crises. By combining business history, economic institutions, and the political economy of offshore finance, the course integrates both archival and data-driven approaches. With a focus on international comparisons and research-oriented, student-centered learning, the course encourages a critical engagement with the historical roots and contemporary significance of offshore finance in Europe. close
