Digital Activism in Different Socio-Political Contexts: A Comparative Perspective
Anna Litvinenko
Comments
This research-oriented seminar explores the forms, dynamics, and impact of digital activism across diverse socio-political contexts. It introduces a novel analytical framework based on the concept of multiple publics (Asen, 2000; Toepfl, 2020), in which each activist public is shaped by three key elements: (1) environment, (2) participants, and (3) discursive practices (Litvinenko & Farag, forthcoming). By examining the interactions between these elements, the course aims to capture the complexities of digital activism and its varying manifestations across different settings.
Through case studies and comparative analysis, participants will investigate how digital activism operates under different political, cultural, and technological conditions. The seminar emphasizes critical engagement with theories of political mobilization and activism while equipping students with methodological tools for researching activism in contemporary information environment.
