Comments
The literary composition ‘The Advice of Shuruppag’ is stylised in the form of a father's exhortations to his son, transmitted by Faraic to Old Babylonian textual representatives and represents an important testimony to Sumerian wisdom literature, which provides information on numerous aspects of social conditions. In this course, selected passages from older and more recent textual representatives will be analysed and discussed.Qualification goals: Students will have advanced knowledge of the grammatical structures and the diachronic and dialectal forms of Sumerian and the diachronic and regional forms of cuneiform writing. They will be able to define cuneiform texts on the topics of ‘society, institutions, structures’ in the Sumerian language and work on them independently from a historical and cultural studies perspective.
Contents: Students will gain an overview of the Sumerian-language cuneiform tradition on the topics of ‘society, institutions, structures’ with a special focus on formal, diachronic and dialectal varieties of Sumerian. close
