  Comments
In the early modern period, media conditions and communication practices changed profoundly across Europe. This seminar will present both classic and current research perspectives on these transformations. Through exemplary sources, it will provide an introduction to the problems and methods of early modern history. The focus will be on the Holy Roman Empire, from the advent of the printing press to the Enlightenment. We will focus on printed sources as well as on other forms of communication, such as manuscripts, oral communication, and visual media, to discuss various topics in early modern media history (e.g. book trade, reading culture, journals and periodicals, religious communication). Also, the seminar seeks to enhance students' proficiency in fundamental research techniques. close
