The history of the Habsburgs in the early modern period combines aspects of early modern statehood, dynastic issues, global exchange relations and much more. Using selected topics from this context, the seminar introduces students to early modern history: including state formation, the economy and coping with everyday life, transregional interaction, court culture and scholarship. Students will learn how to deal with relevant concepts, methods and research approaches to early modern history. Moreover, the seminar addresses propaedeutic basics and techniques of academic work. Prerequisites for passing the seminar are continuous participation in reading and discussion as well as the preparation of short written and oral contributions. Regular participation in the seminar is compulsory. The seminar forms a module together with the lecture “Introduction to Early Modern History.” close
