History of Economy in South Korea

Hojye Kang

Comments

This course aims at understanding the drivers and mechanisms of Korean economic development. Our goal is to interpret Korea's experience in a comparative context and draw lessons that apply to the currently developing countries. We also want to explain the Korean experience away from Korean exceptionalism. Rather than emphasizing how Korea was exceptional, we will adopt the universal framework to draw common lessons. To do so, we will explore the initial conditions, policy tools, effectiveness, and consequences. The instructor will review essential lessons from global economic history and introduce recent empirical evidence on each topic. close
