Comments
The course offers an introduction to Arabic literature by women and about women with a special focus on the pre-modern period. How are women portrayed, how do they portray themselves? What clues do these literary images give about gender constructions and roles? How was masculinity imagined? What about other gender identities? How were love and sexuality imagined? These analyses are supplemented by later developments in order to show historical and cultural continuities and ruptures. close
