Comments

Digital technology and artificial intelligence are not only integral parts of our daily lives but also powerful forces shaping the experiences of today’s teenage generation. Growing up in an era defined by the digital landscape offers unique opportunities for connection, learning, and self-expression, while also presenting a range of challenges. In this environment, young people are constantly interacting with a wide array of digital content (texts) that influences their perspectives and behaviors. This course begins by exploring what it truly means to grow up in the digital age, with a focus on how technology impacts the lives of adolescents –from the way they communicate and form identities to how they engage with information and navigate the complexities of the digital world.

As digital content becomes increasingly diverse, this course takes a comprehensive approach to understanding the various types of digital texts that students encounter daily. It explores both traditional and innovative text formats, including websites, blogs, and social media content such as influencer videos and interactive data visualizations. These texts represent a dynamic range of language use, cultural references, and communication styles, making them rich sources for language learning. The course also focuses on how these diverse digital texts can be effectively used in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. A key element of the course will be its project-based approach, where students will engage in hands-on activities to create, analyze, and interpret digital texts.
