Information for students
The course is content- and time-wise integrated with LV 08650 (Parasitology V)
Additional information / Pre-requisites
The practical course (a combination of parasitological lectures and exercises) spans a minimum of 3 semester hours per week.
It begins in the first week of the second half of the semester (June 5, 2024) and ends in the last week of the second half of the semester (July 19, 2024).
Students in the 6th semester will be divided into two groups (A and B).
The courses are offered as follows:
Group A: Wednesday 1:15 PM–3:30 PM and Friday 8:00 AM–10:15 AM
Group B: Wednesday 3:45 PM–6:00 PM and Friday 10:30 AM–12:45 PM
Location: Course room (ground floor) in the Robert von Ostertag House / Center for Infection Medicine.
Eligibility: Students who have successfully passed the veterinary pre-examination ("Physikum") in full and attended the lecture "Parasitology" are eligible to participate in the practical course. The number of participants per course is limited to 84 due to space constraints in the course room.
Requirements for Certification: Regular and successful participation in the practical course is required for certification.
If more than 15% (= 2 days) but not more than 20% (= 3 days) of the course is missed, regular attendance will only be recognized if a colloquium is completed for one of the missed sessions. Otherwise, the entire course must be repeated.
Attendance for each course day will be certified when the participant signs the attendance list provided at the beginning of the respective course by the course leader or their deputy upon being called.
Additional Information: Protective clothing (lab coat) is mandatory during the course, and participation is not allowed without personal protective clothing. Lab coats are generally not provided, except in exceptional cases and only for a fee. Bringing dogs into the course room is prohibited. Smoking, eating or drinking during course sessions is not allowed. close
Comments
Learning Objective: Acquisition of in-depth knowledge about the morphology of parasites of veterinary relevance and their developmental stages, including their detection methods. Deepening of knowledge regarding their epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, zoonotic significance, therapy, and control measures.
Course Content: The course will cover the most important pathogens of veterinary relevance from the respective fields of parasitology, i.e., protozoology, helminthology, and acarology/entomology.
