Topic: Auditory / Cross-Modal Perception and Cognition
This seminar introduces fundamental concepts of auditory cognition and perception. In addition, students will develop and strengthen skills in academic reading and writing. By the end of the course, you should be able to read scientific articles efficiently and critically evaluate their content.
We begin by examining why psychological research has traditionally focused on visual perception and explore possible reasons for the relative neglect of other sensory modalities. We then review biopsychological foundations of hearing and cover topics such as selective listening, auditory attention, multisensory integration, and the psychology of music.
At the end of the seminar, I will present my PhD project on distractor-induced blindness and deafness, including insights into EEG methodology.
Active participation includes developing and addressing a research question in small groups, with a presentation of the results.
Assessment is based on an optional written term paper. The seminar will be held in German. close
