WiSe 24/25: Modern research using molecular beams
Sandra Eibenberger-Arias, Gerard Meijer
Comments
In this lecture, an overview will be given of important topics in modern research using molecular beams. State-of-the-art experiments will be presented and the underlying physics principles will be explained. The experiments will be put into historical context. After an introduction into molecular beams, the lecture will cover a wide range of topics. These include the required basics of atomic and molecular spectroscopy, various detection methods for gas-phase molecules, interactions of molecules with electric and magnetic fields, molecular matter-wave diffraction, etc.
The practice hour (“Übungen”) will be devoted to the study and the discussion of original research papers.
