WiSe 24/25: Geoeconomics and US Trade Policy
Elisabeth Winter
Comments
This class will discuss the changing economic-security-nexus in US politics. We will focus on political drivers of US trade policy and analyze how the interplay between politics and economics has changed over time - among American economists, but also when it comes to concrete policy-making in Washington. The role of trade in the 2024 US Presidential election, the candidates’ economic proposals, and the legacy of Bidenomics are important current topics to evaluate together during the course of the semester. The goal is to get a deeper understanding of US trade policy making, assess its recent geoeconomic turn also from a theoretical level, and link it to domestic debates on industrial policies. close
