Jo-Ju Kao
Comments
Social media plays a major role in how we express ourselves, interact with others, and even influences how we perceive our own identity. It also reflects and amplifies social norms, particularly those related to gender. In this seminar, we aim to explore how social media shapes, and is shaped by, various gendered behaviors and ideologies.
We will cover topics including, but not limited to, pop culture, health, sports, influencers, hate speech, sexuality, politics, representation, family, intersectionality, and reflexivity. While we will primarily focus on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, you are welcome to introduce other platforms during our discussions.
Through discussions, exercises, and presentations, this seminar will equip you with the tools to critically engage with digital culture and understand the broader implications of social media on gender-related issues.
