Comments
This class is a workshop that accompanies the module’s main seminar. It aims to provide historical depth, discussing works that perhaps shrink the distance between the past and the present. We will also discuss additional theoretical and conceptual debates related to genre and media theory. Texts/contents to be discussed include:
- Matthew Lewis, The Monk (1796)
- Sheridan Le Fanu, Carmilla (1872)
- Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890)
- Virginia Woolf, Orlando (1928)
- Neo-Victorian Theory
- Media Theory
- Fictions that extend the canon with a focus on intersectional aspects, such as “Taboo” (2017) & The Terror (2018)
