SoSe 24: Feminist Movements of the Diaspora
Ramina Yachkaschi
Comments
Diasporic realities are complex and divers, as they are based on ethnicity, religion, the same origin country, and other aspects. Within these realities diasporic feminist movements have always been present but not always given the space to be visible and audible. Their fights for their communities’ rights and their achievements have often been overlooked or framed as “collective” achievements leaving out the feminist actors. and their feminist lense. In this seminar the diversity of diasporic feminist identities and their (transnational) fights in the Global North and Global South will be elaborated. The goal is to better understand the nuanced realties of diasporic feminist communities, their relationship with their country of residence and their country of origin as well as the dynamics within their communities. This will allow to analyse the basic structures of political processes “from below”, the intersectional struggles of diasporic identities and get familiar with local and transnational social and political feminist actors. close
