This course delves into the history of feminism, with a particular focus on U.S. feminisms in the late twentieth century. It explores the intersections of race, class, gender, and sexuality while highlighting global contexts and transnational interactions. Students will analyze a wide range of primary sources, with an emphasis on published materials, digitized archives, and feminist magazines. The course covers topics such as feminist protests against the Vietnam War, the emergence of intersectional thought, transnational networking beyond the United States, especially American feminists' participation in the World Women's Conferences. Additionally, it explores feminist conflicts surrounding race, class, sexuality, gender, and commercial sex, offering a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted nature of feminist movements during this period. close
