Learning Objectives and Course Content: Blood-feeding arthropods can transmit a wide range of pathogens and play a central role in the epidemiology of many infectious diseases. This elective course introduces fundamental concepts of entomology and acarology, with a particular focus on hematophagous arthropods of veterinary importance in the tropics and subtropics.
The course content covers the biology, physiology, and vector competence of selected arthropods, as well as their relevance to animal health and public health. Practical sessions include, among others, the morphological identification of different arthropods, the dissection of ticks to illustrate their internal anatomy and physiological processes, and an introduction to existing surveillance and control programs for vectors and vector-borne diseases close
